Grant Dollars Spent

The grant dollars spent are the amount of federal funding allocated to each project. Grant dollars spent are expressed as $ (dollars) on a scale along the left y-axis, and is charted in the form of a bar for each project. Note: Each project on this site is awarded funds either directly through a funding agency such as the US Department of Energy, or indirectly through a recipient receiving federal funds from the funding agency.

Return on Investment (ROI) - Dollars Saved / Federal Award Amount

The return on investment (ROI) is one way to measure the cost efficiency of a grant. For each project, the overall savings is divided by the grant award. The ROI is calculated as the ratio of dollars saved to the grant award, and is expressed as a percentage on the y-axis. The height of the bar displays the measure of ROI for each project so that the higher the bar, the greater the ROI. Note: A project may be missing from the chart due to a calculated "0" ROI, which may be because of missing reported data for dollars saved.

Total Electricity Saved & Dollars Spent

The electricity saved is the total reduction of electrical consumption for each project. The reduction is expressed in MWh (Megawatt hours) on a scale along the left y-axis, and is charted in the form of a bar for each project. Along the right y-axis is the grant amount expressed in $ (dollars), and is charted in the form of a tittle for each projects. The combination of both the bar and tittle provide a comparison of projects on both the amount of the grant award, and the amount of electrical consumption reduced. Note: A project may be missing from the chart due to missing reported data for electricity saved or the project may not include objectives that deal with electricity saved (i.e. a project involved in converting a storage tank to hold E85 fuel).

Total Retrofitted Building Square Footage & Number of Buildings Retrofitted

The retrofitted building square footage is the total amount of square feet retrofitted for all the buildings of a project. The square footage is expressed in sq ft on a scale along the left y-axis, and is charted in the form of a bar for each project. Along the right y-axis is the number of retrofitted buildings, and is charted in the form of a tittle for each projects. The combination of both the bar and tittle provide a comparison of projects on both the amount of the number of retrofitted buildings, and the amount of square footage retrofitted in all the project’s buildings. Note: A project may be missing from the chart due to missing reported data for retrofitted building square footage or the project may not include objectives that deal with retrofitted building square footage (i.e. a project involved in generating electricity with free standing solar photovoltaic systems).

Total Workshops, Training, and Education Sessions & People Attending

The workshops, training, and education sessions created is the seminars related to each project. These seminars are expressed as Sessions on a scale along the left y-axis, and is charted in the form of a bar for each project. Along the right y-axis is the number of people attending, and is charted in the form of a tittle for each projects. The combination of both the bar and tittle provide a comparison of projects on both the number of people attending the sessions, and the amount of seminars created. Note: A project may be missing from the chart due to missing reported data for workshops, training, and education sessions or the project may not include objectives that deal with workshops, training, and education sessions (i.e. a project involved in replacing conventional streetlights with energy efficient versions).

Total Production and Reduction of Consumption

The total production and reduction of consumption shows the amount of energy generated and the amount energy reduced (respectively) for a given project. Energy is expressed in MWh on a scale along the left y-axis, and is charted in the form of a stacked bar for each project. The bottom portion of the bar is the amount of energy reduced or energy saved for the project. The top portion of the bar is the amount of energy generated. The combination of both portions of the bar provide a representation of reduction of energy from conventional, non-renewable sources such as coal, oil, and natural gas. This combination of energy reduced and energy saved is called net electricity reduced. Note: A project may be missing from the chart due to missing reported data for amount of electricity generated from photovoltaic, wind or other renewable systems, or the project may not include objectives that deal with the amount of electricity generated from photovoltaic, wind or other renewable systems (i.e. a project involved in replacing an HVAC system in a building).

Solar Energy Systems & Capacity

The solar energy capacity and systems show the amount of capacitance and the number of systems for each project. The total capacity of the systems is expressed in kW (kilowatts) along the left y-axis, and is charted as the left bar for each project. Along the right y-axis is the number of solar energy systems, and is charted as the right bar for each projects. The combination of both the bars provide a comparison of the capacity of the solar energy systems to the number of solar energy systems. Note: A project may be missing from the chart due to missing reported data for solar energy systems or the project may not include objectives that deal with solar energy systems (i.e. a project involved in installing a geothermal energy system).
